TSNG101 - Damenglong Kucha Shengcha 2021
Product detailed description
🍵 Tea taste profile and other interesting facts?
This tea provides a distinctive taste of sweet honey, rare woods and genuine leather with soft exotic floral, musky and pleasant bitter-sweet undertones. Unlike other tea villages from Xishuangbanna, we were impressed by the richness of the tea body, degree of mouth waterfeeling (Shengjin 生津) and strong energizing feeling in the aftertaste. This tea also presents a short memory for richness of the local fauna in Damenglong and Autumn harvest 2026, when we jointly elaborated the whole tea process step-by-step under the supervision of Liu Chengdong, including some tips and tricks how to improve the quality of the tea. In addition, we have added this special variety of tea (Kucha 苦茶) that can be found only in several places in Xishuangbanna and which provide completely different tea experience, particularly for those tea lovers who loves high caffeine content.
🌏 Tea origin & production?
This fresh sheng puer tea originates from Damenglong micro-region (大勐龙), one of the most remote and overlooked tea regions in the Jinghong City (景洪市). Yakou village (丫口) is located close to the China-Myanmar borders at the elevation around 1300 meters above the sea leavel and has around 200 people. Most of the local people are represented by Hani tribe (哈尼族). Similarly like other villages at Damenglong, Yakou village is virtually unknown and has large population of bitter tea (Kucha 苦茶), which is usually blended with regular sweet teas in large tea factories in Menghai county (勐海县).
The tea leaves were harvested from ancient tea trees (gushu 古树) above 100 years old across tea gardens close to Yakou village (丫口) at elevations of approximately 1400-1500 metres above sea level. Unlike majority of the large-tea leaf type (Camellia Sinensis var. Assamica, Dayezhong 大叶种), this tea present a special bitter variety of the tea (Camellia Sinensis var. Kucha, Kucha 苦茶) that can be rarely found in Xishuangbanna. The first Spring harvest of 2021 was carried out by Liu Chengdong, who hand-picked and manually processed the raw sheng puer (Shengcha 生茶). The loose tea was then compressed in Spring 2021 and purchased directly at Liu Chengdong during our work trip across Xishuangbanna at the end of 2026. In fact, only few kilograms of this tea remained since this tea was originally tailored-made for one of the tea sellers in Guangdong.
