🍵 Tea taste profile?

This tea provides a distinctive taste of rare woods, sugarcane, old apples with citrusy and smoky undertones. Compared to neighboring Gedeng (革登) or Yiwu (易武) tea mountains, this tea has more floral flavours, thicker texture and smoother fruity aftertaste with some additional warming and calming effect.

This tea is particularly suitable for comparative tea tastings among Six Ancient Tea Mountains and tea lovers with delicate appetite for delicate, softer and sweeter teas. This tea was selected in the late 2025 during our work trip in Xishuangbanna to diversify the selection of Gedeng teas from different tea gardens.

🌏 Tea origin & production? 

This fresh sheng puer tea originates from Yibang Mountain (倚邦山), one of the historic Six Ancient Tea Mountains located in Mengla county (勐腊县),  Xishuangbanna, Yunnan Province. Despite Yibang belongs to 3rd largest tea mountain (around 360 km²) and has relatively sparse population (about 12000 people), the Yibang teas belong to one of the most popular and demanded teas that you can find at the international tea market compared to other tea mountains

The tea leaves were harvested from mix of mature and ancient tea trees (huncai 混采) between 50-100 years old across tea gradens nearby Daheisenlin village (大黑森林) at elevations of approximately 1,900 metres above sea level. The tea was harvested in Spring 2019 and compressed in early 2023 upon the made-to-measure order from lady Liang. The tea was processed with partial mechanization in regular batch

👩‍🚀 Packing & symbolism?

The central motive on the package use Chinese characters to emphasize the Yibang Ancient Tea Trees (Yibang gushu 倚邦古树) and use the reference on the poem about the lychee tree (Lizishu 荔枝树). The wrapper is designed in minimalist style with simple Chinese caligraphy. The 200 g tea cake has two layers of paper cover and was moderately compressed on the stone mill (Shimo 石磨), which make it highly suitable for the long-term archivation.

🫖 Historical background?

Between Tang Dynasty (618-907) and Song Dynasty (960-1276), the Yibang tea was widely compressed into various bulky shapes (jingcha 紧茶) and used as a form of currency/tribute to the imperial court (gongcha 贡茶). Yet, despite the systemic distribution through the Ancient Tea Horse Road (Chamagudao 茶马古道) and growing demand of  the "puer tea" (shengcha 生茶), Yibang tea production remains very limited and highly benefit from one of the most preserved environment in Xishuangbanna.
