Product detailed description

Fresh sheng puer from Weidong village (卫东) at Bulang Tea Mountain (布朗山). Tea was harvested in Spring 2023 and compressed in Spring 2025. Weidong village is located approximately 13 km (aerial view) from the Laobanzhang village (老班章), one of the most famous and most demanded villages in the Menghai County (勐海). Although the tea gardens near Weidong village are situated at a lower altitude (1,200–1,300 m.a.s.l.), Weidong is better known for its majestic waterfalls, which provide vital moisture to the local flora and fauna. The tea leaves come from ancient tea trees over 100 years old (gushu 古树), collected across Weidong tea gardens.

The tea was generously provided by Liang, a certified tea master (level 3, 2013, Shenzhen), senior tea mentor and lecturer at Xishuangbanna Jinlanling Vocational Training School (西双版纳金蓝领职业培训学校) since 2019 who source her teas across twelve tea mountains within Xishuangbanna. During our work trip to Xishuangbanna at the beginning of 2025, we spent quite a lot of time tasting, testing and consulting various aspects of local teas. Additionally, we conducted several interviews with her and discussed contemporary trends in Xishuangbanna tea industry.

Aroma:

  • Wet + dry leaf (Shicha 湿茶 + Gancha 干茶) - light smoky scent with sweet flower-nutty tones
  • Cup aroma imprint (Guabeixiang 挂杯香) - noticable nutty and honey tones

Color:

  • Initial phase (< 5 infusions) - transparent white-yellow shades
  • Development phase (> 5 infusions) - brighter golden-white shades

Taste:

  • Initial phase (< 5 infusions) - refreshing lemonades from freshly squeezed citruses and dry nuts (hazelnuts and almonds) with tones of dry hay and freshly cut wood
  • Advanced phase (> 5 infusions) - sweet tobacco, yellow melon, cream and light musky tones (one of the signature trait of the "Banzhang area")

Body

  • Thickness (Naipao 耐泡) - solid vitality, which will allow you to make more infusions compared to other teas in mature tea tree quality (qioamu 乔木)
  • Texture (Chunhounongyu 醇厚浓郁) - rougher and complex character (ideal for work or travelling)
  • Astringency (Se 涩) - marginal despite of the age of tea (Q1/2023 harvest)
  • Character (Kutianjiaozhi 苦甜交织) - similarly like most of the tea from Bulang Mountain, this tea also has bitter-sweet body (quickly fade away within 1 minute), which similarly like at Czech beer, amplify sweeteness and intensity of particular layers of flavours
  • Balance (Zonghe pinghengdu 综合平衡度) - differences between particular layers of flavours are gradual and symmetrical (i.e. no suprise changes in between the infusions)

Aftertaste:

  • Sweetness (Huigan 回甘) - intense sweeteness within hours
  • Mouthful feeling (Shengjin 生津) - intense mouth-water-feeling within hours
  • Energy feeling (Nenglianggan 能量感) - intense tonic and boosting inner power within hours
