Product detailed description
🍵 Tea taste profile and other interesting facts?
This tea provides a distinctive taste of sweet pastry, juicy stonefruits (raspberries and cherries) and sweet honey with soft exotic floral and spicy undertones. Unlike other tea villages from Bada Tea Mountain, we were impressed by fruity juiciness taste and less warming effect that will appreciate especially those tea lovers who do not like to overheat their bodies. This tea also presents a short memory for richness of the local fauna and gradual decline of ancient tea gardens due to the lower purchasing prices for freely-growing tea trees and bigger proportion of older people in the village. We also added this tea to provide better comparison across different tea villages at Bada Tea Mountain and clarify the ongoing trends in the tea industry in the last 20 years
🌏 Tea origin & production?
This fresh red tea originates from Bada Tea Mountain (巴达山), one of the largest and most demanded tea regions in Menghai County (勐海县). Manwa (慢瓦) village belongs to one of the less known and most remote tea villages at Bada Tea Mountain. The name of the village is in Dai language and can be translated as a "village at the fish pond".
Manwa village (慢瓦) has 841 people and it is located at the elevation around 1700 meters above the sea level. Most of the local people are represented by Bulang tribe (布朗族). Unlike other tea villages at Bada Tea Mountain, Manwa village experience the gradual decline of ancient tea gardens since 2007 (only few mu 亩 remaining) and re-orientation to other agricultural crops, particularly sugar cane and corn. On the other hand, there can be found several groups of wild tea trees (Yeshengcha 野生茶), where the boiled tea flowers rather than tea leaves are drinked by locals.
The tea leaves were harvested from old tea trees (dashu 大树) around 70-99 years old across tea gardens close to Manwa village (曼迈) at elevations of approximately 1800-1900 metres above sea level. The first Spring harvest of 2025 was carried out by Aini, who hand-picked and manually processed the red tea (Yunnan hongcha 云南红茶). The loose tea was then compressed a year later (Q3/2026) and purchased directly at Aini during our work trip across Xishuangbanna at the end of 2026.
