😍| Time for tea! This time, we will explore how foreigners (laowai 老外) are perceived by the local people of Xishuangbanna and what you can realistically expect during your visit. Although many locals make little distinction between different nationalities, relatively few have extensive experience with visitors from outside Asia, often leading to some truly memorable and unexpected encounters. What stereotypes exist about foreign tea enthusiasts? Why are certain teas offered differently to foreigners than to local customers? How does the principle of reciprocity shape relationships within Xishuangbanna's tea culture? To what extent do local tea farmers and producers take foreign visitors seriously? And how can you build genuine trust and mutual respect without taking advantage of the warm hospitality that is so deeply rooted in local culture?
