😍 | Time for tea! This time, we will explore a series of Yunnan white teas produced by Yukan, a tea farmer whose teas we have been sourcing regularly since 2020. By tasting teas from the same producer across multiple harvest years, we will gain a better understanding of how tea evolves over time while minimizing other variables. Unlike most comparative tastings that focus on differences between regions, producers, tea materials or processing techniques, the only changing factor in this tea session is the harvest year. Although Yukan's tea gardens near Manwa Village (曼佤) contain relatively few ancient tea trees (gushu 古树) compared with other gardens across Bada Mountain (巴达山), each harvest has consistently impressed us and reinforced our commitment to this long-term project of direct tea traceability. What are the differences between freshly harvested and aged white teas? How significantly do the flavor, aroma and body change over time? And why do most tea vendors purchase tea from farmers only once, rather than building long-term relationships through regular sourcing?
