| Summer is finally here, which is a perfect time for exploring Xishuangbanna Tea Culture! This time, we would like to talk about talk about our new arrival of red teas (Yunnan shaihongcha 云南晒红茶) from Six Ancient Tea Mountains (Guliudachashan 古六大茶山) produced during the 1st Spring harvest in 2025, a highly demanded and rarely produced type of teas from Mengla Region (勐腊).
| The Mengla teas are widely known since the Tang Dynasty, when the teas were transported via the Ancient Tea and Horse Road (Chamagudao 茶马古道) since 6th century. Since Qing Dynasty (1644-1911), the puer tea became restricted to public and used as a form of tribute (gongcha 贡茶), an offering and high-added value product for export. However, due to the the long-term ethnic disputes around the Mangzhi Mountain (莽枝) during late Qing Dynasty (1850–1861) and prolonged ethnic conflicts between 1940s-1980s where many tea gardens were systematically burned as a tribal revenge, the tea production from the ancient tea mountains was very uneven and limited.
| What is so special on red teas from ancient tea mountains? How is this year's harvest different compared the others? And what are the current challenges for making non-traditional teas in Mengla Region? During the event, will taste remaining red teas from new arrival and discuss the growing popularity of these teas. The event is the follow-up of the Discover Ancient Red Teas (10.7. 2025).
