🍵| Summer is finally here, which is a perfect time for exploring Xishuangbanna Tea Culture! This time, we would like to talk about history of the Menghai tea industry (Menghai Chachanye 勐海茶产业) since the late 1930s until now. While there can be found numerous tea factories (Chachang 茶厂) in Yunnan Province (云南省), we would like to elaborate two biggest tea factories in Menghai County (勐海县) that pave the path for the international puer tea trade since early 2000s.
🫖| Since 1938, it was the Menghai Tea Factory (Menghai Chachang 勐海茶厂) that mastered signature tea blends (Beifangcha 配方茶, 1960s) and controlled fermentation of shu puers (shucha 熟茶, 1974/1975), one of the most beloved types of teas in modern Chinese tea history. Yet, after the privatization of state-owned tea factories in early 2000s, it was the former Menghai Tea Factory, Taetea (Dayi 大益), which serves as an archetype of quality and puer tea legacy.
🎎| What is so special on Menghai Tea Factory teas? What is the ongoing development of the Menghai tea industry? And what are the current challenges of the Dayi Tea Factory? During the presentation, we will compare four Dayi Teas from (sheng puers and shu puers) and discuss the growing popularity of these teas.
