Product detailed description
Discover the grace of traditional Chinese craftsmanship with this handcrafted porcelain gaiwan from Jingdezhen, an ancient city with over 1,000 years old history of making teaware in Jiangxi Province (江西). This gaiwan features transparent windows filled by glaze made by traditional "rice-grain" technique (Linglong 玲珑) and an elegant hand-painted flower pattern and use a deep cobalt blue technique typical for the blue-white porcelain (qinghua 青花). The seals contain the text "Made in Jingdezhen" (景德镇制).
The outer part of the gaiwan and plate is decorated by diamond-shaped windows, which symbolizes purity, clarity and prosperity. The diamond-shape pattern represents stability, balance and order, the virtues cherished by confucian teachings during the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644). Yet, in the broader context, it refers to bringing more light into our lives to achive the enlightment and wisdom with every sip. This glazed gaiwan is suitable for preparing all types of tea. The painting is underglazed.
During our work trip to Xishuangbanna at the beginning of 2025, we spent quite a lot of time tasting, testing and consulting the impact of various factors on tea taste. Apart from famous and widely recognized ceramic teawares (e.g. Yixing, Jianshui, Nixing...), we also compared various materials (glasses, porcelains, metals, clays...) to better understand the nuances in the tea taste profile. As a result, we brought some Jingdezhen tea porcelain, which will help you to better recognize various flavour layers in between the infusions and provide more accurate insight on your new teas during the tea tasting.

Jingdezhen porcelain is much more beautiful in reality than in photos. :)
