Product detailed description

Discover the grace of traditional Chinese craftsmanship with this handcrafted porcelain gaiwan from Jingdezhen, an ancient city with over 1,000 years old history of making teaware in Jiangxi Province (江西). This gaiwan features an elegant hand-painted flower pattern and use a deep cobalt blue technique typical for the blue-white porcelain (qinghua 青花). The seals contain the text "Made in Jingdezhen" (景德镇制).

Outer part of the gaiwan is decorated by lotus and fish symbolizing the happiness, prosperity, harmony and peace. On gaiwan, there can be also found the text "Pure and elegant charm of the lotus pond" (Hetangqingqu 荷塘清趣), one of the traditional natural motifs used especially during the Qing Dynasty (1644-1912) highlighting simplicity, balance and joy from daily life. This glazed gaiwan is suitable for preparing all types of tea
. The painting is underglazed.

During our work trip to Xishuangbanna at the beginning of 2025, we spent quite a lot of time tasting, testing and consulting the impact of various factors on tea taste. Apart from famous and widely recognized ceramic teawares (e.g. Yixing, Jianshui, Nixing...), we also compared various materials (glasses, porcelains, metals, clays...) to better understand the nuances in the tea taste profile. As a result, we brought some Jingdezhen tea porcelain, which will help you to better recognize various flavour layers in between the infusions and provide more accurate insight on your new teas during the tea tasting.

Disclaimer
Jingdezhen porcelain is much more beautiful in reality than in photos. :)
