Product detailed description
Discover the grace of traditional Chinese craftsmanship with this handcrafted porcelain gaiwan from Jingdezhen, an ancient city with over 1,000 years old history of making teaware in Jiangxi Province (江西). This gaiwan features an elegant hand-painted crane motives and use a deep cobalt blue technique typical for the blue-white porcelain (qinghua 青花). The seals contain the text "Made in Jingdezhen" (景德镇制).
The painting refers to the famous scenery made by famous Chinese painter Zhang Zeduan (张择端, 1085–1145) from the Northern Song Dynasty (960–1127), who captured the peak of trade, prosperity and abundance along the river during the Qing Ming Festival (清明节), one of the most important Chinese celebration of the Spring and family reunions, where people clean the gravesites and show the respect to their ancestors. The reference "Qingmingshanghetu (清明上河图)" on the outer side of the gaiwan symbolizes the blessing for wealth, stability and harmony regardless your cultural background or differences. This glazed gaiwan is suitable for preparing all types of tea. On the lid, you can find a "little porcelain hover" (Xuanting 悬停), which allow you to stabilize your lid on the gaiwan in diagonal position between the brews. It is both practical and nice little detail, which will uplift your tea skills during your tea ceremony.
During our work trip to Xishuangbanna at the beginning of 2025, we spent quite a lot of time tasting, testing and consulting the impact of various factors on tea taste. Apart from famous and widely recognized ceramic teawares (e.g. Yixing, Jianshui, Nixing...), we also compared various materials (glasses, porcelains, metals, clays...) to better understand the nuances in the tea taste profile. As a result, we brought some Jingdezhen tea porcelain, which will help you to better recognize various flavour layers in between the infusions and provide more accurate insight on your new teas during the tea tasting.

Jingdezhen porcelain is much more beautiful in reality than in photos. :)
