Product detailed description
Discover the grace of traditional Chinese craftsmanship with this handcrafted porcelain gaiwan from Jingdezhen, an ancient city with over 1,000 years old history of making teaware in Jiangxi Province (江西). This gaiwan features an elegant hand-painted crane motives and use a deep cobalt blue technique typical for the blue-white porcelain (qinghua 青花). The seals contain the text "Made in Jingdezhen" (景德镇制).
The painting refers to the Chinese decorative art of Yiluliansheng (一路连升), a type of blessing expressing the wish for continous career progress and good fortune along your life journey. Although the written records of this say can be widely recorded since the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644), the systematic artistic interpretation on porcelain, silk, wood carvings and other natural materials became widely common during the Qing Dynasty (1644-1912), particularly in the context of successful completion of the imperial examinations (keju 科举) by various scholars and state officials. This glazed gaiwan is suitable for preparing all types of tea.
During our work trip to Xishuangbanna at the beginning of 2025, we spent quite a lot of time tasting, testing and consulting the impact of various factors on tea taste. Apart from famous and widely recognized ceramic teawares (e.g. Yixing, Jianshui, Nixing...), we also compared various materials (glasses, porcelains, metals, clays...) to better understand the nuances in the tea taste profile. As a result, we brought some Jingdezhen tea porcelain, which will help you to better recognize various flavour layers in between the infusions and provide more accurate insight on your new teas during the tea tasting.

Jingdezhen porcelain is much more beautiful in reality than in photos. :)
