| After a month-long work trip in Xishuangbanna in Spring 2025, we want to share another piece of Xishuangbanna tea culture!
| This time, we would like to talk about Zhanglang (章朗), one of the oldest and most demanded tea villages in Bada Tea Mountain (巴达). Until early 2000s, the Zhanglang teas were virtually unknown due to remote access from Menghai. Yet, after more than twenty years, it significantly changed and becomes one of the most popular tea tourist hotspot similar to Laobanzhang village (老班章) at the Bulang Tea Mountain (布朗).
| To date, about 280 families lives in Zhanglang village. While Bada ancient tea forests belongs to one of the largest wild tea tree areas in Yunnan Province, Zhanglang teas becoming gradually more popular thanks to the citrusy taste and sweet juiciness that makes these teas so demanded. During our work trip to Xishuangbanna at the beginning of 2025, we spent quite a lot of time discussing contemporary development of Xishuangbanna tea tourism, learning about Bulang tea history and tasting teas from Zhanglang ancient tea gardens.
| What is behind Zhanglang's teas? How they taste? And what are the current challenges for Zhanglang as well as other tea villages in the future? During the presentation, we will compare insight from two Bulang tea farmers (Yushan and Yukan), who spent most of time in this area.
